Chiefs release veteran LB Justin Houston to free cap space

The Kansas City Chiefs have released veteran linebacker Justin Houston after they were unable to work out a trade, freeing up $14 million in much-needed salary cap space. The 30-year-old Houston signed a $101 million, six-year deal with the Chiefs in 2015 that was at the time a record for a defensive player. Haikal scores upset win in Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct

NEW YORK (AP) — Haikal won the $300,000 Gotham Stakes by one length at Aqueduct, earning 50 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby. Ridden by Rajiv Maragh, Haikal ran one mile in 1:35.63 on Saturday and paid $10.80, $4.90 and $2.90. The 3-year-old colt is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin. Mind Control returned $5.90 and $3.30. Gray pitches 2 scoreless innings in spring debut with Reds

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Sonny Gray’s delayed debut for the Cincinnati Reds was a success. Gray pitched two scoreless innings in his first spring training appearance Saturday night against the San Diego Padres. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas has fired former star quarterback Vince Young from his part-time role as a development officer for poor performance and often being absent from work or not in touch with his supervisors.
